Trees in the morning mist
The aim of this project is to create a Community Landscape Character Statement for the parish of East Chiltington. This document can then be used at District level when considering future development proposals that would affect our area. The Local Landscape Character Assessment is the process undertaken to create the aforementioned Statement. It expresses what local people perceive as special qualities of their environment and identifies objectives for maintaining and enhancing that landscape.
At a level above the LLCA are Landscape Character Assessments (LCAs) and these are normally undertaken at District and County level to understand and record what makes one place different from another. East Sussex County Council and the South Downs National Park Authority have both produced Landscape Character Assessments covering East Chiltington.
Community involvement is essential, and our assessments need to be a genuine expression of the whole community. We need as many residents as possible to help with the field survey work. Survey packs have been produced each containing three survey sheets and a map of East Chiltington.
The final LLCA document will be produced by combining information obtained from the surveys, together with other relevant environmental information (e.g. geology, history, bio-diversity, rights-of-way etc.). We hope it will be useful not only to aid planning decisions, but also to inform residents and visitors about East Chiltington.
